Summertime Low Carb Keto Approved Alcoholic Drinks

Are
you looking for a lifestyle transformation but still want to live a little? I’m
right there with you. Just because you’re embarking on a new journey to health,
doesn’t mean that you can’t relax with a few drinks. Whether it’s a glass of
wine at dinner or a mixed cocktail on a night out with the girls, when you’re
watching your carb intake, it doesn’t neccesarily mean you have to come to a
complete hault.

From
mixed drinks to keto wines, there are plenty of options out there for
you.

Keep
in mind, that when you consume alcohol with the ketogenic diet, your body will
put that alcohol in front of producing ketones. What does that mean? Well,
nothing really, you’ll just have to wait up to 24-48 hours to start producing
ketones again as long as that alcohol is in the liver.

Moderation
is always key when it comes to consuming alcohol on any plan. Heavy drinking
isn’t good for anyone but if you have stick to a few here and there then having
a few low carb drinks won’t hurt anything.

#1
Liquor. If you have to choose between it all, choose the hard stuff!

Why so
much liquor?

When it comes to low carb, distilled drinks are probably the
safest. Very minimal carbs so really the only thing you have to worry about is
what you’re mixing with them.

1. Jack Daniels with a diet soda

Obviously regular soda is out of the pic when it comes to
low carb. But diet soda leads itself into numerous carb free drinks.

Make! Mix one jigger (1.5 ounces) of whiskey with Diet Coke,
and pour over ice.

2. GIN
AND TONIC ( My personal fave)

Gin and tonic is virtually a great drink anytime of year.
The crispness that the tonic brings makes it almost feel as a diet soda. You
can swap out soda water for your tonic and still get the flavor without hurting
the diet too much. Add a lemon or lime!

Make! Mix one jigger of gin with soda water, add a squeeze
of lemon or lime, and serve over ice.

3.
Mojito, Keto Style

Traditional mojitos use syrup. If you use a diet lemon-lime
soda you can get that same sweetness without the carbs.

Mix one jigger of rum with fresh lime juice and diet
lemon-lime soda, and pour onto muddled mint leaves. Then pour over ice.

estimated carbohydrates: 1.5 grams

4.
Best Beer for Keto?

Yes, you can drink light beer on keto in moderation. There
are carbs in beer, but as you can see in the list below, they range from about
2 grams – 7 grams, so choose appropriately!

Here are some low carb beer options,
perfect for keto:

·
Amstel Light – 5g net carbs

·
Beck’s Premier Light – 3.2g net carbs

·
Budweiser Select 55, Budweiser Select, Bud Light
– 1.9g, 3.1g and 6.6g net carbs, respectively

Coors Light – 5g net carbs

Heineken Light – 6.8g net carbs

Michelob Ultra – 2.6g net carbs

Miller 64, Miller Chill, Miller Lite – 2.4g,
3.2g, and 4g net carbs, respectively

5. Wines on Keto

Yes, you can definitely enjoy some wine on keto but remember
that one serving of wine is 5 oz. This is the part that always gets me!
LOL!

I would recommend choosing dry wines over sweet or semi
sweet wines.

DRYFARMSWINE is what I endulged in during the Metabolic
Health Summit 2019 in Long Beach California and it was amazing!

6. If I enjoy a night out,
what keto alcohol do I order?

If you are looking for keto friendly cocktails to order at a
bar, your best bet is to…

1) CHOOSE A HARD LIQUOR:

Vodka

Rum

Tequila

Gin

Brandy

Whiskey

2) ADD A SUGAR-FREE MIXER:

Soda water – Also called seltzer water or club soda.

Unsweetened iced tea – Flavors are fine too, as long as they
are unsweetened.

Lemon or lime juice – Specify “no sugar or simple
syrup” to make it clear that you only want the lime juice. Typically
you’ll also want to add some water (still or sparkling) to dilute the sour
citrus.

Diet soda – These will not kick you out of ketosis, but
typically use artificial sweeteners. Use in moderation.

Sugar-free energy drinks – Same warning as diet soda above.
